pst between OL versions?

I'm running OL 2003 on 2 machines right now. My main PC and my laptop. When
I'm away I move my pst file over to my laptop and then back to my main
machine afterwards. I'm considering building a new machine with W7 on it and
either OL 2007 or 2010 (if I decide to wait until that's out). I'm wondering
if I'm going to have a problem moving the pst file between machines. Is
there some sort of pst compatibility setting (like there is with MS Access
that lets you set an mdb to A2k format) that will let you set it to a lower
version format but will still work with higher versions. Seems logical as
I'm sure there are others who would encounter this issue but it occurred to
me that I'd better ask to be safe!

Thanks,

Keith

Unless I'm missing something that article says that 2003 and 2007 are the
same. It shows how to move between 2003/2007 and 97-2002 versions. So I
guess that if I go with 2007 I won't have to do anything regarding
compatibility. But does anyone know about 2010? It's in beta obviously and
should be out in the next couple of months so I figure someone ought to
know.

Thanks. I'll check that out.

Are you kidding? Is MS getting away from the usenet newsgroups too? I really
dislike the web forums. I know they are fancier but they are so cumbersome
to use by comparison!

MS didn't create any Usenet groups for Windows 7 either.
But these groups will be around for a good long time and are a perfectly
appropriate place to post questions about all versions of Outlook, including
public betas.
The format of PST files has not changed in Outlook 2010 and will be
perfectly compatible with Outlook 2003 and 2007. What Outlook stores and how
it stores it in PST files varies from one version to the next and always
keeps us guessing.

Thanks Russ. That's good news.

I have a triple-boot PC with Windows XP/Outlok 2007, Windows Vista/Outlook
2007, and Windows 7/Outlook 2010. My PST is on a drive common to all and it's
physically the same PST that I use in each of the three. I've been doing this
now for several months and have experienced no problems of any kind accessing
the same PST with Outlok 2007 and Outlok 2010.

If you have problems with pst file, you can try a tool called Advanced Outlook Repair. You can download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/aor.exe . I think it is a useful repair tool for you. It is easy to recover your PST file by using its wizard. It is a powerful tool to recover messages, folders and other objects from corrupt or damaged Microsoft Outlook PST files.

Detailed information about Advanced Outlook Repair can be found at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/
