PST File import

XP Pro system using Outlook 2000. Outlook backup.pst file created and moved
to the network server. XP reloaded on system, when attempting to import the
backup.pst file, Outlook stops responding. The first attempt started
importing the files and folders, but the network connection was lost.
Subsequent attempts cause outlook to stop responding. Scanpst find no
problems with the file. The following is the text output file from that
process:

I have read some info on using Hex editor but am not very familiar with that
use.


Any suggestions?

In addition, a copy of the PST may be stored on a networked drive, but since
Outlook requires read/write access to the PST you need to store it on the
local machine. Microsoft doesn't support using a PST across a network.
I would also suggest that you run scanpst.exe against the PST before opening
it, to make sure there are no errors or corruption caused by the network
connectivity issue.

If the PST is that large, before it becomes a major problem make sure you
check the size and compact if necessary or break it out into a second PST.
Just to save you some future heartburn.

I opened the pst file from within Outlook ("Open pst file) and it
worked. It took longer than normal due to the file size. The file was only
moved across the network. It is still accessed locally within the users
personal data profile.
