We're hoping that by installing Virtual PC7 we'll be able to get back
into those pesky PST files from Outlook and export to Outlook Express
for yet another export to Entourage and/or Apple Mail. We looked at
Outlook Extract software and it has nice features, but again, you have
to have Outlook up and running. The software from
www.littlemachines.com looks nice, the price is right, but there's no
indicator as to whether or not you've got to have Outlook active on the
system.
Since we switched to Apple after the second total death of Dell
Dimension units we could recover the hard drive (in an external case
now) but there was no way we could export pst files "before the fact".
And we had archived and backed up and saved files & settings with
zealous dedication. Can't access any of it without VP7. Doesn't much
matter that the pst files or the Outlook Express files, for that
matter, are still resident on the hard drive. Same story for MSN Money
files. At least we could do a Finder search and recover most of the
documents. So much for an easy switch...
Apple roots and toots about it being oh so easy to switch and then the
first thing you run into is the PST file abyss. So much for truth in
advertising? And Microsoft doesn't do much for its customer base
either. Otherwise, you'd be able to import into Entourage. We've been
looking and looking and still haven't found a straightforward, clearly
communicated, solution to this. Please, would someone post such a
thing????
