PST Import Tool

I notice on Microsoft's website that the PST Import tool is now officially
released (no longer a beta). However, there's not much info. It only says
that additional help is available in the tool after you have imported it.

I was wondering if folks here could give me an idea about what the tool
does. Assuming I have a PST which only contains emails from my Inbox and I
import it,

- will it add all the emails to my inbox ?
- and will it in turn sync them back to the Exchange Server ?

In Outlook, if you import a PST, it only shows up as a new "Archived
Folders" item in the menu and doesn't conflict with the original folders.
Will the new PST import tool work the same way in Entourage ?

Any info will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Abhijit

I do know that it only works with Mac Outlook 2001. It will NOT import PC
..pst files of any flavor. In case you knew that already, I'm sure someone
else will chime in to answer your specific questions.

Yep. It imports an Outlook 2001 (Mac) .spt and places all the e-mails in
a separate folder.

I'll be involved migrating about 700 users from Outlook 2001 to
Entourage 2004, and someone told us that Entourage 2004 did not support
'local PST' files. Sounded like bunk to me.

So to be clear, can somone answer, does Entourage 2004 allow you to
save/archive mail from the server to a local file?

And on the PST Import Tool, does it pull the mail from the archive and
push it up to the server in a separate folder or does it replicate it
self as a local file/folder/archive?

Thanks, so much,
D.

Nope.

Yes, but not in PST format, in industry standard MBOX or .EML files.

It stores it in the entourage database, in local folders. From there you may
copy it up to the server if you wish to, but you don't have to - you can
just leave it where it is for local access on that machine (even when
off-line).
