PST vs. Mailbox calendar issues

Hello there,

Hope you will be able to assist.

Here's the situation:

As many people, I too receive large amounts of messages to my mailbox.
After a while I figured it's a best practice to deliver them
automatically to my PST.

Thing is, the calendar appointments are delivered directly to the PST
as well, resulting in my mailbox calendar being irrelevant. Rules
don't help either, and so I'm back to manually sort everything out –
actually, nothing's changed.

The way I see it - there are (or should be) two ways to solve this:

1. Somehow share my personal calendar (the one residing in my PST)
instead of the mailbox one. Couldn't find a way to do it. No matter
what I do, people still see my mailbox calendar, the irrelevant one,
when using the 'Open a Shared Calendar' option in Outlook.

2. The other logical option would be to configure Outlook in a way
that will leave/deliver all appointments (invitations, updates,
cancelations etc.) in my mailbox but move the rest to the PST. This,
seemingly, cannot be accomplished, even with rules; you can leave the
mailbox as the delivery destination and add rules for everything but
appointments to be moved to the PST, however, Sent Items cannot be
MOVED, just copied. This means the sent items will be either
duplicated between the mailbox and the PST, or simply left in the
mailbox.

If you know a way to make any of the above solutions work, or have
other tested solutions – please let me know.

1. .pst files are not meant to be shared, hence the "personal" folders file.
2. What version of Outlook? 2003 and 2007 have an exception, not sure
about earlier version, for items that "use the appointment form" that you
can leave in your mailbox rather than move to personal folders.

How exactly do I configure it to leave the items that "use the
appointment form" in the mailbox?

I still should change the delivery destination to the PST, right?
So it means a rule can be created to make an exception to this?

No, leave your delivery to the mailbox and make a rule that moves all mail
to your .pst except for appts and meeting items.

Start from a blank rule that you define to move items to your personal
folders from your mailbox and add the exception to exclude appt and mtg
items.

But then there's this problem with the Sent Items.
There's no way to make a rule that MOVES them to the PST, you can only
COPY them...
That's why I didn't do it in the first place.

That's also the 2nd solution I figured is supposed to be supported by
Outlook (see my original post).

No, leave your delivery to the mailbox and make a rule that moves all mail
to your .pst except for appts and meeting items.

than spend time trying to game Outlook.

Create an after sending rule to move items to the pst and disable the option
to save sent items. Note that if something happens and the rule fails you
won't have a copy of the sent item.

Personally, I think you are better off using the mailbox and archiving it
regularly - daily if need be. Set it to delete junk and deleted items too.
