Psycho excel selecting problme

I have user with this issue now. She writes:
Since last Friday, and I've shut down my computer nightly
since and the problem continues, when I go into Excel and
use my mouse to choose a specific cell, my mouse
essentially turns into a scrolling mouse, and I can't do
anything except use Ctrl-Alt-Del to end task. If I use the
tab key or up/down arrows, then it's fine. This is the
only program I'm having problems with. .

I asked her to examine the suggestions at
http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showflat.pl?
Cat=&Board=xl&Number=286193&page=0&view=expanded&sb=5&o=0&f
part=all&vc=1 and she responded:
Since I've rebooted 3 times since this started, I wasn't
optimistic, but I tried them all and nothing worked.

Can anyone help??? THANKS!!

Its not to do with the scroll lock key is it?
If the excel status bar shows 'SCRL' then she should click
the scroll lock key to unlock it.
If thats not the prob then please send a bit more info

Two of the users in my office have just had the same
problem. They both have dell laptops with a touchpad that
has a scroll lock feature. I'm not sure if this is the
cause of the hassle but it may be a factor. The only way
out of the scrolling mode seems to be to select a cell
and then type a value in the formula text edit field. If
you enter a number in the formula box excel seems to snap
out of scroll mode and goes back to behaving normally.

If anyone has a fix to stop the scroll mode being
activated in the first place then I'd like to hear it.
