Pub 2000 and AOL

My site looks great in IE.
Why does it look so bad in AOL.
Is the fault with PUB 2000?
What can I do to make it AOL friendly?

First, Publisher 2000 is the best of the Publisher bunch for cross platform
browser appearance. I do not test my site in AOL, but I do test it in Nutscrape
4.7. For starters select the most primitive html in "Target Audience" under
File - Web Properties. I think that is Navigator 3.0, but in any event it is
the top radio check mark thingy.

Then you will just have to practice until you learn to beat Publisher into
submission. There are many cross-platform bugs like a nasty tendency for some
browsers to improperly handle the last partial line of full justify text. Some
of these quirks can drive you insane, but if you persevere, you can get
Publisher 2000 to display decently in a wide variety of browsers.

Do not try this with Publisher 2002, and especially not with Publisher 2003.
The latter does not support anything but IE by design. That strange bit of
magic is to be addressed in upcoming litigation I am led to understand.

AOL, on some of my pages, is putting distorted graphics that were on my
previous website.
I deleted everything on my host's server - also deleted those pictures from
my system.
Could Pub still have them saved somewhere?

Can you check it on another machine running AOL? It is more likely you are
seeing some sort of cache problem I would guess. Is there a way to delete
history and files in AOL's browser that is analogous to that in IE? The AOL
browser used to be based on Nutscrape, but I have no idea what they are doing
now.

AOL caches graphics and also degrades them. This is all done to give the
customer the illusion of a faster page download. There are option settings
in AOL to disable this behavior.

Well, I have managed to have my website look clean in AOL. But at a price !
I did it by removing most of the graphics that made the site appealing to
begin with.
I am now pretty much left with text and some photos - pretty boring.
AOL did not mess up photos, just web graphics, some of the lines were even
squished !

I assume that each viewer would have to disable this AOL bad behavior of
caching graphics.
This is just not acceptable.
I have decided to quit using Pub 2000 and start using Dreamweaver again, I
had bought it initially but it was too complicated for me at that time.
Thank you David and the other MVPs who have helped me get started with
Publisher.
This Forum has been so very helpful - I could not have gotten started
without you.
I hope I will find a Dreamweaver Forum as great as this one.

If the problem is the crappy accelerator technology, Dreamweaver may not solve

create a site that will run under AOL.
There are zillions of sites that run fine thru AOL.
How does one go about finding a web design program that is compatible?

To get my website to run clean on AOL, I had to remove some of the graphics.
It is fine now ... but boring.
I shall recreate the one with the grpahics in and give Pub 2000 one more
chance.
