Pub Website - internal links....help please

S

Sparrow

How do I create a hyperlink from, say, page 2, to a
graphic on page 4. Not just to page 4, but directly to the
graphic.

And how do I create a link from a button to an embedded
object? Like a Powerpoint slideshow? And get the Ppt
slideshow to work after it is all uploaded to the internet.

Also, I have read the FAQs about this, but I do not
understand them. Whoever wrote the answers assumed more
knowledge than I have.

I am going nuts here trying to embed a Powerpont slideshow
in my Publisher webpage, and being able to run the Ppt
slideshow when the website is uploaded. Groan! Has
anyone done this???? PLEASE tell me how you did it.

Hi Sparrow,

As per your first question, read: Hyperlinking within a page (bookmarking) :
http://www.publishermvps.com/Default.aspx?tabid=79

This article describes how to do this within a page. After you create the
anchor where the graphic is, you will need create a link to it. Since it is
on a different page, you will need to add that to the code described in the
article. An example: On page 4 you would use the insert html fragment to
insert the anchor beside or perhaps just above the image, such as <A
NAME="READ HERE"></A

Then on page 2 you can add a hyperlink to the anchor, such as
http://Sparrow.com/Page4/index.html#READ HERE Change Sparrow.com to your
URL, page4 to the name of the page where you placed the anchor.

As to your second question, quit using the word embedded...you DO NOT embed
a powerpoint slideshow....you LINK to it. Assuming that you saved your
powerpoint file to a html folder as you suggested in your previous post,
then you just upload that folder and link to it. I would assume that when
you saved your ppt file as html, it created an index.html file? Then
construct your link accordingly... http://Sparrow.com/SlideShow/index.html .
Once again change Sparrow.com to your URL, and SlideShow to whatever you
called the folder that contains the powerpoint html files that you uploaded.
And if you did all that and the slide show still does not seem to work, then
its possible that it simply is so large of file that it takes forever to
load. Check the size of the powerpoint html folder. If is 100 kb or less it
will load fairly quickly. If it approaches a megabyte, it would take as much
as 4 or 5 minutes to load with a dial-up modem.

My best advice to you is to spend some more time reading all the FAQs and
supporting articles that David has written...even for Publisher versions
different than yours. There is a wealth of knowledge there, and you will
likely learn answers to questions that you have yet to ask. One article in
particular I would suggest is:
Build a site with multiple Publisher 2000 files
http://www.publishermvps.com/Default.aspx?tabid=81

Why? Because if you understand the principles described on that page, you
will start understanding how to write links. It will make it more clear as
to why you have to link your ppt slide show...not embed it! Good luck.
