Public Calendar Appts appear on own Calendar

I am using Outlook 2002 with SP-2. Exhange Server 5.5.
I've created a public calendar and others have scheduled
meetings using this calendar. Problem occurs when I
double-click any public calendar meeting to view it.
When I go to my own calendar, the meetings that I viewed
are there now too! Does not occur with appointments made
directly on the public calendar. Is this the way that
Outlook is supposed to work?
