Public Folders and Sent Dates

I have Entourage set up to connect via my corporate Outlook Web Access. Works brilliantly and means I rarely need VPN.
When I drag an email from my inbox and drop it into a public folder for a project weird things happen. If you look in the public folder from my Mac using Entourage everything is fine and the email has the correct dates.
If you view the public folder from Outlook on a windows machine the email has the Sent and Received dates set to the date that the email was dragged and dropped into the public folder. Looking into the header it would seem that Outlook sees it as being sent by the OWA server to the Exchange Server and then received by the Exchange server.
I would hate to have to go back to setting my Entourage to connect to the internal Exchang server and then using VPN when out of the office as the current setup is so easy. However as I am one Mac user in an office of windows machines I may have little choice.

I'm seeing similar in both Exchange Server 2003 and 2007 environments.
I'm also seeing this using Entourage to look at messages placed by
someone else into the public folders.

My assumption is that these messages are being treated like Posts on the
Exchange Server rather than mail messages. When I view the headers I see
the user-agent as Microsoft-Entourage/12.11.0.080522, which I know was
not the application used to place these messages.

The reason you're probably seeing the correct Sent date on your machine
is that you have a locally cached copy of the message.

Have an Outlook user place a message into the same public folder and
view the result in Entourage. What do you see then? Also, have you
verified messages placed in the public folder by one Outlook user have
Sent dates preserved for another Outlook user?

Thanks for the response Bill. We have been using public folders for project filing for many years now and I only switched to the Mac about 6 months ago. This problem has been appearing since then when I get behind on filing and drop in correspondence that's prior to the day I am on.

Everything filed by my colleagues appears correctly though I could note they are using Outlook connect directly to the local exchange server and not going through the OWA gateway.

I will try resetting my connection to the local exchange server from the OWA on Monday and see if the same problem exists so that at least I can remove one potential issue.
