I have a client that recently split off from another domain. Used exmerge to
backup affected user mailboxes for the new domain and exchange server.
Other users are not showing this, but after migrating to new system this one
user is showing in the Favorites listing two copies of every folder he has.
One is the normal personal folder but for every folder shown there is a
second "copy" that shows "in Public Folders". When clicked on it reports an
undefined error with trying to talk to the target folder. The original
folder looks fine and works. The "in Public Folders" version does not offer
the option to remove when right clicked.
This problem extends to Contacts as well. The user has 3 contacts folders
and all have an "in Public Folders" version in the contacts list folders.
Same result for clicking on it and same symptoms when trying to right click
to remove it. The client has no public folders in use or defined on
exchange server, so this makes it even more strange.
As a note, this is Exchange 2003 and this user is presently only one using
Outlook 2003, the rest are on older versions. I am hoping for a means to
remove all of the "in Public Folders" instances. I have seen a similar
situation asked once before in my searches for an answer. The MVP that
responded to that person's request had suggested the right click-remove
option, no one continued that thread further to see if it worked or any
other alternatives.
