Public Folders Problem

D

Don Enderlein

I am running a Powerbook G4 with 10.3. I am using Outlook
2001 for Mac because my company uses MS Exchange with the
IMAP feature turned off (therefore I can not use Entourage).

When in Outlook 2001, I can send/rcv emails and see the
public folders, but can not access them. If I use another
app (like Apple's Mail), I can see and open the folders.
However, in Outlook 2001, when I click on the desired
folder, I get the following error message:

-------
The folder could not be opened. The contents of this public
folder are currently unavailable. either the MS Echange
Server is down or the public folder has not been replicated
to this site.
-------

When I go to help and type in "replication" nothing comes
back. When I type "synchronize", the help says to click on
the desired file and choose synchronize this folder. Very
frustrating loop.

Thanks

Hi Don!

If you are able to use Apple Mail to connect to the Exchange server, then
you are indeed using IMAP. I had to verify this in the Help for Mail:

"For Exchange to work with Mail, Exchange administrators need to configure
the Exchange server for IMAP access. Some system administrators may refer to
an Outlook Web Access Server as an Internet Information Services (IIS)
server."

Outlook 2001 uses the Microsoft proprietary MAPI protocol to communicate
with the Exchange server.

I'm not an Exchange admin, but I would guess that your Exchange server's
admin has something configured differently for each protocol and this is
causing the problem that you're seeing. I don't believe the problem is one
you can fix on the client end.

Hope this helps! bill
