Publish entrprise plans through non-published master plan

I have 3 separate enterprise project plans. I have a non-enterprise Master
Project plan with links to these 3 enterprise plans. When I open up the
Master Plan, the linked plans are all checked out. I am not able to publish
the plans through the Master Plan because it is not an enterprise plan. I
can not open up the individual enterprise plan because they are already
checked out. So the only want I can publish my changes is to close the
master, and open the individual. Is there a better way? I do NOT want to
publish the master Plan because it causes known problems that I have seen
posted on this board.

You could try the following:

In each sub-project set Options|Collaborate - on every save publish
the following information, checking New and changed assignments. I
suspect when prompted to save in the master the subproject assignments
will be published.
