Publish to the web 2007

I created a webpage, saved it and went to file/Publish to the web. And this
is where my problems start.

All the instructions say "In the "Save In" box....." there is NO Save In box
in Publisher 2007. If theres no save in box how can I add/modify ftp
locations?????

So I tried another way...

When I go to File/Publish to web and in the Publish to web dialog box on the
bottom there is a "Tools" button. I click on that. click on Map Network
Drive, follow all of those instructions step by step Drive Z... (WHATS THE
FOLDER NAME SUPPOSED TO BE?). I skip the folder and leave it blank and go to
"Connect to a website that you can use to store your doucuments" and a wizard
opens/ click next/choose a custom network address/type in my websites ftp
address/uncheck logon anonymously and put in my username for my hosted
site/.............and now what?

The map network drive file is still open and wont finish until I put in a
folder name... what folder name... where is that coming from.

How do I publish my site? Why is this so complicated?

the folder name can be anything you want...but why are you mapping network
drives???

just save your website in a folder on your machine, just remember where!

I dont understand what youre saying... I was just trying a different route.
Can you expand on what you mean? If I create a web page and click on publish
to web I dont get a "save in" dialog box so I dont get the option of
"add/modify ftp locations".

So if I dont have that option then where am I supposed to go after "publish
to the web". All it opens at that point in 2007 is a publish to the web
dialog box with a file name as "index" and a save as type of "Web page,
filtered".... no other options. If all I do at that point is click "save" at
the bottom... Im done. Where do I go from there. How is it creating a webpage
for me?

I was instructed by GoDaddy (my site host) to go into "Tools" at the bottom
of the Publish to web dialog box and select the only option "Map Network
Drive and continue from there... burt as I stated below its still not getting
me anywhere.

Can anyone help me out? This is a very basic static site and I thought this
would be an easier process with publisher.

Click on Publish To Web then click on My Network Places, when that window
finally opens, click on the New Folder folder...to right toolbar, it looks
like a folder with a golden star (normal new folder creation icon)...that
will open a wizard like thing and you should be able to figure it out from
there.

I don't usually do it that way so I forget exactly.

Rob,

I dont have anything that says "My network places" in the Publish to the web
dialog box.......... Im getting frustrated. Where is the "Save in" box or the
"add/modify ftp locations" in Publisher 2007?

I have searched the entire day for something that should be so simple....
but every set of instructions online says "click on save in drop down and go
to the bottom for add/modify ftp locations".... I dont have any of that or a
My Network Places"

Now Ive tried a second computer with Publisher on it and none of the items
everyone discusses are on this either... no "Save in" box, no "add/modify ftp
locations", no "My Network Places". Both of these computers are on Vista...
should that matter?

Ive typed "ftp locations" into the help on the toolbar... nothing... I just
dont know what to do to publish this page.

After you select the Publish to Web you should get a screen that looks like
this;

http://s32.photobucket.com/albums/d17/elrobo/?action=view&current=pub2007-p2web.jpg

This is Publisher 2007 on XP pro box, but it should look the same on
Vista...if you installed it correctly.

You won't see any of:

" Where is the "Save in" box or the
"add/modify ftp locations" in Publisher 2007?"

Until you set up the folder shown in the image I posted for you then you
will get a wizard like thing to help you through it.

My computer came with Vista preinstalled... and I have Microsoft Office Pro
installed on two separate computers. This must be another of the many Vista
issues Ive encountered that dont finction with MSN or Office products. The
Publish to Web screen that pops up for me looks nothing like yours... no
"save in", no "network Places". Not sure what I should do. I uninstalled on
my laptop and reinstalled and it looks exactly the same. Both computers are
only 8 months old.

Doesnt someone have Vista that can help me out? If I have no "save"in I cant
get to "add/modify ftp locations". And if I dont have "My Network Places" I
cant get to the other things youre talking about.

Ive done a search in help in Publisher...no answers. Ice searched the web
for an entire 12 hour day... nothing.

Anyone know if this is a Vista issue and if theres a service pack for it?

Excuse me for jumping into this thread, but yes, it is a Vista thing...and
an IE7 thing on XP....and yes, it is a security "improvement".

Reference: Prepare, publish, and maintain your Publisher Web site:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher/HA100947601033.aspx
FTP and HTTP uploading has changed with the introduction of IE7 and Vista.
Down the page you will find instructions for uploading using FTP with
Vista...there is a plus sign by "How" that you need to click to see the
instructions. You will note that it does talk about mapping a network drive,
and this will work, but I would suggest that unless you are using a form on
your site, and you are using FTP uploading protocol, that you use FileZilla
to upload your site. Once you learn how to use FileZilla it will be much
faster than doing it the way MSFT suggests.

Download and install the free FTP client FileZilla:
http://filezilla-project.org/ It is likely to be easier for you.

GoDaddy: Using FileZilla to Upload Your Site:
http://help.godaddy.com/topic/80/article/104

When you Publish to the Web, direct your web files to a folder somewhere on
your computer where you can find them. Then use FileZilla to drag and drop
the index.htm file and the index_files folder to your server.

If you have more questions about Publisher webs, then post in the web group
and we will try to help you there:

Thank you both. I was in the midst of figuring this out with Godaddy this
afternoon when I got this new thread. Yes I had to download filemozilla. And
yes, it worked. So far all of you Vista/Publisher2007 users take note!!!

I put the file in a separate folder on my computer and Filemozilla pulled it
from there to my web host and it worked out perfectly!
