I strongly recommend that Publisher sites be published thru Publisher
(directions can be found at http://www.publishermvps.com ) as mistakes and
errors like you report are common otherwise.

David:
I just read this message you wrote to someone else about web publishing in
Publisher 2003:
"... Your last statement I find odd as you report to be using 2003. It's
version
2002 that does not default to a index.htm naming convention putting the
burden on the customer. If you are indeed using 2003 that would not be an
issue as 2003 does default to index.htm."

My question is how come I find the web publishing process so darn difficult
in Publisher 2003. I have been trying to "publish to the web" but it NEVER
turnrs out sucessful. I keep geting 2 seperate files uploaded to my personal
web page (Road Runner - http://home.cfl.rr.com/arthritisgrpslc/ when I use
Ipswitch, WS_FTP Pro 2006. There is NO default index.htm anywhere. I am
beginning to pull my hair out. Why is this so hard? I consider myself
computer literate (15+ yrs.). Please help. There is no "publish to web"
command in the file pull down of Publisher 2003. Why not? All I have is
"perview to web page and save to pub. and or web design format. Is there s a
solution I haven't tried yet?

If you use third party ftp clients to upload to a web using FP extensions
you will break the extensions and not be able to use the Publish method
until you repair them...other bad stuff may happen too

In addition to what Rob said, I followed your link and eventually came to a
page that said:
"This page is a temporary placeholder which should be overwritten with your
own start, or home page, named index.html (my note: index.htm will work
fine). If you need basic information or require assistance in uploading your
documents, visit the Personal Home Pages topic on http://help.rr.com - Road
Runner's Online Help Desk!

To make any changes on your Personal Home Page account, please refer to the
Member Home Pages page."

I would read through David Bartosik's material on uploading Publisher web
pages, plus the information provided on the Road Runner's online help.

David Bartosik in general recommends publishing through Publisher, or more
specifically, using HTML uploading protocol. This helps prevent a variety of
common errors in addition to the naming issue with 2002. For example, unless
you change the default, Publisher will generate two files and one supporting
folder per web publication. If you use HTTP protocol, these files and the
subfolder will automatically be uploaded. Some people don't upload
everything when they use FTP. And as Rob said, if you use FTP protocol that
will break the FPSE. But you can read more about that...and Road Runner
might not even offer that option anyway. And if you don't have any forms on
your site, FTP will work just fine.

David has moved his content, so reference the following articles about
uploading for a better understanding and a less frustrating time:
http://msmvps.com/blogs/dbartosik/articles/category/1921.aspx

One other comment, its possible that Road Runner will be framing your site,
which will create problems with your navbar...potentially. Check with them
to see if your site will be framed?
