Published vs. Forecast Plans..

Is there a way to have only the forecast version of a plan on Server ? I've
tried publishing as forecast and that does not work and I've created a
..forecast from .published plans, but you cannot delete the published plan
without deleting the forecast plan.

We want some plans for training, review, etc. But don't want them on the
server where the resources can contaminate the OLAP cube.

Thank.s

In order to use alternate versions of any project, you must first save the
project as the .Published version, and then you can save it again as a
..Forecast version. There must be a .Published version of every project,
however. So, no, you cannot have only the .Forecast version of your
projects in the Project Server database.

And by the way, I am totally confused by your "the resources can contaminate
the OLAP cube" statement. Please describe what you mean by that, because
perhaps you are misunderstanding how alternate Versions interact with the
OLAP cube. Hope this helps.

I guess I'm not so smart on OLAP cubes. We would like to leave a demo plan
or three on project server for training, etc. I assume that any plan
information we post will be on the SQL database.

Can we have detail in SQL that is NOT extracted to the OLAP cube for client
reports, etc.

Thanks.

All project information in the Project Server database is processed into the
OLAP cube, inlcuding both .Production projects and .Forecast projects. Do
not despair about this, my friend. When your Project Server administrator
creates custom Portfolio Analyzer views (based on OLAP cube data), he/she
can simply filter the Views to show only .Forecast project data or only
..Published project data. This way, you can have both kinds of projects in
your system and still get the reporting data you wish from the OLAP cube.
Hope this helps.

You'll likely be well served to create a separate instance for demo and
training. This sounds more like the solution you want. You can accomplish
this very easily and quickly using tools available for download from
microsoft.
