Publisher 2000 shuts down

Gang,

I have Publisher 2000 installed on an XP Pro system. Every
time I open Publisher I get the wizard, but when I click
Cancel wizard the program shuts down. I tried clicking
the "X" button on the wizard box, and that closes the
wizard okay; but then when I try to open a file the
program shuts down.

The same Publisher 2000 on the same PC with ME and even
Win98 worked just fine.

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling; defragged; virus
scanned, but nothing helps.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Bill W

Ditto with me when I had a pirate copy, problem dissapeared with legit one.

Is this a stand alone version of Publisher, or did you install it as part of
Office?

Fraud pretty standard for the UK. You cannot expect anything else from a
third world country with a leader like Bonsai Blair.

As you will not have sufficient education I will explain the meaning of the
word 'bonsai'. It means little bush.

Gang,

My Publisher 2000 is a stand-alone store-bought version.
It worked just fine on ME, but every time I try to exit
the wizard or start or open a project Publisher just shuts
down.

As I said earlier, I have uninstalled/reinstalled a few
times, I defragged, virus checked -- nothing solves the
problem.

The issue you describe is an unknown issue. Uninstalling and re-installing
will never and has never done anything.

The only thing that can cause this will be a video driver.

Start your system in SAFE MODE and if Publisher opens and works without any
issues, update your video driver and your problems will be over.

If that does not work, phone Microsoft Support with your credit card in your
hand.

Gang,

That worked! -- Publisher 200 did indeed run properly in
Safe Mode, so I guess it is my drivers. Can't find updated
drivers for my on-board video chipset, so I'll be popping
in a new video card this evening.

Thanks loads!

Bill how old is that motherboard?
Reason I ask, VIA had a real shocker of an onboard chipset which seriously
affected the onboard video chip. The download from VIA for that model
chipset fixed all issues. While I am far from fond of onboard video, it may
save you the cost of a separate video card. If you have to buy a new video
card, go with something like a Leadtek which are excellent with drivers and
fixing them if necessary.

The BIOS may also need to be updated. If you do update the BIOS, make
*SURE* you read the instructions five times over.

Unusual, well actually unheard off to crash that quickly on opening with
Publisher was not packaged with Office.

Does this happen if you restart your computer in SAFE mode?
