Publisher 2002 and merged records from Access 2000 question with J

I was wondering is there's anyone out there that can help me figure out this
problem I am having:
I have to create student ID badges. I have a file document created in
Publisher 2002 that is attached to my Access 2000 database. I am trying to
merge the records from Access 2000 to my Publisher 2002 doucment. When I
merge the records I see the student firstname and lastname, however the
picture displays a number. I think it's some code or something. As a test I
created a form in Access using the same field (firstname, lastname and
picture) and all 3 are displayed correctly. However, once again when I merge
the records all I see is the lastname and first name without the picture id.
Does anyone know what this problem is and how I can fix it? Thank you for
your help!

You are aware that Publisher 2002 doesn't support the mail merge of
photos/images? Publisher 2003 is the first version that supports this
feature, and it requires you to have a database that includes the directory
path to the photo.

Thank you for your assistance. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware the Publisher
2002 doesn't support jpegs when using the mail merge feature. I saw that the
mail merge data file that you can build in Publisher 2002 didn't have any
picture field types so I tried to use Access 2000, creating a table with the
student first names and lastnames and an OLE type jpeg picture field. I
thought I'd be able to merge the records to my Publisher 2002 doc using
Access as the data source. I was tyring to get around it but it still didn't
work. We don't have Publisher 2003 at the High School where I teach. I doubt
they're going to get it this year, too! Oh, well....

Publisher 2002 doesn't support any kind of non-text field when using the
Mail Merge feature.

This would not work in Publisher 2003, either. Publisher 2003 requires that
you have a text field containing the path to an image file on your hard
drive.

No current version of Publisher is able to merge from OLE fields.

I saw this last post was dated in 2005. Is it still true that Publisher 2007
will not merge images from OLE fields?
