publisher 2002 error can not open file

Luke

I am using Win 2k Pro and created a book in Pub 2002. I sent it to the
printers office to be printed into a book. They have the same OP system and
same version of Pub but they keep getting error message "can not open file".
I've been reading theads/posts and I see that Norton is what I have but not
sure or their virus software.
When I burn the CD that I give to them, should I disable script blocking and
in Norton Options Office Plug ins on my PC?
I will check with them in the morning to be sure they do the same should
they use Norton. What if they are using a different virus protection? Should
they do the same proceedure?
Thank you
Luke

How did you burn the CD? Did you save
the .pub file to your hard drive and use your
burner software to create the disk?

Ask them to copy the .pub file to their hard
drive and then try to open it with a double
left click.

It will be their anti-virus software. Publisher doesn't save any information about
your system in publications.

Have the recipient copy the file to their hard drive.

Maybe you can convert the file to a PDF.

Yes I saved to Hard disk then burned to CD. They have saved to their hard
drive and still didn't open... I'll check on the "left double click".
Courious thing is that I emailed the file to them and yesterday they finally
got it to open via their tech, but when they printed the book it printed
quarter pages on full pages resuting in double print within the same amount
of pages I sent to them. Strange huh.
I opened the file on another PC running WinXP with no Problem. I am giving
them a zip disk today and tell them the things I have read here and see if
that dosen't make a difference.
I'll report back in to you guys later this afternoon.
Thanks for your input
Luke

Mary,
If I save in PDF will They be able to convert it back to PUB on their PC? I
think the file has to be in PUB to print but I'll check with them.
Thanks I'll report back this afternoon

The printers I work with prefer .pdfs or eps. Personally, I prefer pdfs...much simplererrr.

I'm not aware of a way to convert pdf to pub files....maybe there is..dunno...kinda doubt it.

There may be an issue with the printer driver.
Maybe converting to .pdf would be a solution.

Try this...

Download and install the following free PDF Creator.

PrimoPDF
http://primopdf.com/

With your new program installed...open your project
in Publisher and go to...File / Print.

On your Print screen...open the drop window and
select PrimoPDF as your printer.

Click...OK...now you will see the PrimoPDF screen
and you can browse to a save folder.

When you click...OK..your .pdf file will be created
in your save folder.

The resulting .pdf file can be viewed on any computer
that has the free Adobe Reader installed.

ScanSoft's PDF converter can do it, although the results are nowhere near
perfect.

Have you made sure that the file is not marked as Read-Only after copying
from the CD?

Well I guess it helps to update the computer once in a while... after
emailing them about Norton and the other questions, the printer called me
back and they were indeed getting errors but ignored them until they read my
email. They searched MS website for the error and dowloaded the updates,
Then they were able to open the file after that... Two weeks of redo's... I
tell ya :)
So perhaps this is another lesson....
Thank you for your help... Because it helped :)
