Publisher 2002 hangs

M

Mjm

When trying to open some of my MSPUB files, the application just hangs. I
have tried re-installing & my XP system is fully up-to-date. When I send in
the error message and go to the recommendations, it says to update to a newer
version of 2002 which I don't want to do - I like 2002 and I don't want to
spend the money - or to check my system, which I did. I have changed my
printer name as someone recommended - no change & I have tried to move some
of the FONTS - also to no avail. I don't know where to get some help??? By
the way some of my Publisher files open just fine, but others do not.

It would be helpful to know the error. When the error message comes up there is
a details button, what does the message say when you select the details button?

When you say you tried to move some fonts, were you successful? How many fonts
do you have installed?

Error message is: Microsoft Publisher has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

AppName: mspub.exe AppVer: 10.0.6842.0 ModName: mspub.exe
ModVer: 10.0.6842.0 Offset: 00012908

Other times I get message when I have to close after a LOOONG time.
You chose to end the nonresponsive program, Microsoft Publisher.
The program is not responding.
szAppName : MSPUB.EXE szAppVer : 10.0.6842.0 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000
At this point when I look at the error report it says:
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER4fd5.dir00\MSPUB.EXE.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER4fd5.dir00\appcompat.txt

The file that is related to this message is 46024 KB, but I have not had
problems opening this large file previous to 2009.

Yes, I was able to move about 200 fonts - identified with an A to a
different folder.
I still have 554 fonts identified with an O or TT icon.

I changed printers only because someone told me that may be a problem, but
it didn't seem to help, so I am back on my original printer.

No, I don't have Norton installed anymore. I quit using it about 2 years ago.

Hope that helps with the overall picture. Any help is appreciated.

It could be a driver causing you grief, I'd look into a graphics/video driver
and perhaps a printer driver. Publisher saves all printer information in all
programs, it very well could be the files are looking for a particular printer
driver.

I ran thru the instructions to troubleshoot the video issues - no difference.
Any other ideas? Also checked the drivers for the printer - same as
originally installed over a year ago.

Still having problem - looked on another website and they said that Microsoft
was aware of this problem with Publisher 2002 on XP, yet I can't find a fix
anywhere except for SP 2 which I have already installed SP3 and that did not
seem to do it. What more fonts can I move? Would that help?

322119 worked for me - I just renamed an old printer with my main printer
name and made the old printer my default printer and the problem went away.
I will reload my main printer later and I am sure it will work ok then.
Thanks so much!
I had tried renaming my default printer, but that alone didn't do it.
