Publisher 2003 won't make CMYK Hi-Res PDF

I have an ad (7mb) created in Publisher 2003 that needs
to be provided to a magazine in HiRes CYMK PDF.
Publisher will create a hi-res PDF but only with the
publication setup in publisher as RBG. When we try to
select CMYK and print to Adobe 6.0 Pro Distiller the
print window counts up to 15mb, but then bombs after
printing 64k. The Adobe log shows "stackunderrun on line
#50 as the cause.

Using Microsoft Knowledge Base Article #821960 as a
possible solution we have tried printing to the Publisher
PS print driver with the same problem.

Anyone have a work-around for this obviously known
issue. The deadline on this ad is rapidly approaching.

Make the PDF in RGB and then within Acrobat 6.0 convert it to CMYK.

Next time you are buying software have a look at the *excellent* DTP Serif PagePlus 9.0

Has substantially superior functionality for offset work and more suitable functional drawing tools and effects for DTP work.

That worked, but I couldn't figure out how to do it in
Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Pro. I did the same thing using
Illustrator 10 and it appears to have worked fine. Can
you tell me how to do it in Acrobat?

I suspect the culprit in this is the Adobe printer instance you are using. I
suspect it is set to convert colors whereas it should leave them unchanged.

best way to proceed is to print composite cmyk from Pub2003 to the
"Microsoft Office Document Image Writer" printer with the port set To File.
You should also be able to do this with the Distiller Printer driver (also
with the port set To File).

this will generate a composite cmyk PostScript file.

Then load distiller and in the job options select "press". double check the
job settings, color tab, to make sure color is left unchanged.

Then you can drag the PostScript file created onto the distiller window and
it will distill it and put the pdf where the postscript file was dragged
from.

I have experienced the exact same problem with a much smaller
composition. Does anybody know if it's solved in SP-1? The Microsoft
KB has an article #835709 describing a similar problem that is solved
in SP-1.
