Publisher 2003

In a Publisher 2003 file... I have a postcard built with a transparent color
box placed on top of a photo that has copy that was built with Word Art....
when I create a high resolution PDF file with Adobe Disatriller... I get a
checker board pattern in the trasparent box. Why? and How do you fix that
from happening?

Publisher has always had problems with transparencies. Right click the box, save
as picture, select the .png format, you can select a higher resolution. Insert
the box back into your file as a picture.
