Publisher and CMYK

First, thanks to all who provided advice on the offset printing issues.

I realize now that I need to get MP 2003 and output CMYK composite PostScript
for the offset printer.

I have three related questions:

(1) In changing my images from RGB to CMYK, should I do the conversion in
Photoshop or should I do it in Publisher by inserting the RGB pictures in the
newsletter and then use the menu options: Tools/Commercial Printing Tools/
Color Printing and select Process colors (CMYK)?

(2) Is it OK for offset printing to leave the images "embedded" or should I
create links by using the menu options: Tools/Commercial Printing
Tools/Graphics Manager, highlight the embedded image, click Link, and click
Browse to locate the original file and link to it?

(3) Is it necessary to use the menu option File/Pack and Go/Take to a
Commerical Printing Service?

Thanks again for your time and help.

The latter. IME, (though with a different program) you will get far more
fidelity from leaving your images RGB until the output stage. As it was
explained to me, if you import a CMYK image (other than an eps) it will
be converted to RGB, then output as CMYK. Two conversions. If you import
an RGB image then output as CMYK, one conversion.

Ask your printer. Personally, I embed pictures.

I like a pdf file, as does my printer.

I agree w/Mike. keep the pic as rgb and let Pub handle the conversion. if
you bring in cmyk, it'll get run back and forth and that will seriously mess
up even a good image.

as for pack and go...if your output provider supports MSPub, then that would
work. It is useless if they don't.
