Publisher file not opening after SP2 install

L

Lvaughan

I have been maintaing an intra-net webpage for my work and went to upgrade to
SP2 and I have found that I get an error message everytime I try to open a
previously saved .pub (saved in Publisher 2007 sp1). I do not want to have
to recreate these files from scratch or remove sp2.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Oh also I hit Control+Shift +I to get the error code on the message that
says: Publisher cannot open the file. 1100009

Mary,
I have tried that registry fix and that hasnt seemed to make a differance.
Other things created in publisher before the upgrade to sp2 (like business
cards) seem to be opening just fine.

It may just be quicker to recreate the file now and try to duplicate the
already exitsting webpages. I was just trying to avoid that secnerio!

Thanks

If you would like, I will try to open the file and see if I can save a copy
that you can open. Upload it to www.yousendit.com , email yourself the link,
and then post the download link here so I/we can download it. You dod not
have to register or sign up for anything on the free yousendit site, and I
have used it for a number of years without problems.

Will not open with Publisher 2007 SP2

Opens with Publisher 2002 (many design errors)
Re-saved as a Publisher 2002 file and Publisher 2007 SP2 will not open that
one either

Opens fine with 2003, 5 page web. Lots of misplaced nav buttons off in the
scratch area though.

Opens in 2003 by double click even though I have 2007 loaded....so maybe it
was 2003. Anyway, it opens fine and I can resave it. It's not corrupted, but
there some wild stuff in the web that needs fixing....nav buttons WAY off in
the scratch area...also the page length is waaaayyyy long.

Thanks for making the file available. Unfortunately, at this point I am not
having any more luck than you.

I was able to open it with Pub 2007 without the SP2, and with Pub 2003, but
I could find no combination of doing a save, save as a new name, etc that
would result in a copy of the file that would open in Pub 2007 sp2.

Did you build this file with Pub 2007 or 2007? Are you running XP or Vista
and which SP version please? Is there anything else that might be 'special'
or unique about your computer setup? It seems that a few people are having
this problem, but not all. I can open any file without problem...

I was going to rebuild the file for you, but as you can open it with Pub
2003, you should be able to create a new publication in Pub 2003 and copy
and paste from the old file, and then open the rebuilt file in 2007. If not,
let me know and I will see if I can build a copy here.

Chuckle...I just read my post about opening in Pub 2007 or 2007...guess I
should take a bit more time to proof read what I post. You of course
understood what I was asking...

I am guessing that it opens in Pub 2003 for you, because that is still set
as the default *.pub file association for that version for your computer. If
I double click a .pub file, Pub 2000 tries to open it on this machine, as
that is still the version I use for most production work.

I did notice the extra navbars in the scratch area after you mentioned it.
Not sure where they came from, but I could not delete them until I ungrouped
and disconnected them from the navbar wizard. That might have had something
to do with why this file would not open in Pub 2007 with SP2. However just
deleting the extra navbars didn't change anything. I still could not open
the file after cleaning it up.

As per the length, that is a 'standard working page' length. Publisher 2000,
2003 and 2007 truncates the pages after the last design element on each page
when you either preview the page or publish the web files, and thus builds a
custom length page depending on the content of each page. Pub 2002 was the
only version that had a fixed length page.

Hummm. Have you installed Office 2007 SP2? I can open the file with Pub 2007
without SP2, but cannot with SP2.

Lemme qualify that last post.

I will open with Pub 2003, but NOT with 2007 - before the install of sp it
opened with both.

Thanks for the input so far everyone.

My machine is running Windows XP SP3 and the file was orginally created in
Publisher 2007 SP1. It was after installing 2007 SP2 that I had issues
opeing the file (as it seems everyone else that has tried to open it with Pub
2007 SP2 has also had).

Yesterday I recreated the file (rewrote the webpage) and it seems to be
working ok. This obviously will not be a good solution for a more
complicated site for other people.

I would assume that there should be a patch coming for this issue
(hopefully soon)

Thanks for all the input!

Thanks for the additional information. The only difference with my setup was
that I had not installed the Office 2007 SP1, or the Windows XP SP3 prior to
installing the Office 20007 sp2.

I tend to be one of those people that do not install patches unless I have
to. If memory serves, one of the problems with the Office 2007 SP1 patch was
it made it impossible to open some files produced by older versions of
Office. I think that is referenced in part by the link that Mary provided. I
could be totally wrong...

Sorry you have had problems, but I just hope that your experience is more an
aberration, than the norm.

Thanks Mary.

So are you saying that uninstalling the patch is the best solution for
people with problems opening their files? I thought I read in the general
group that someone tried that, and still could not open his files??
