Publisher is "garbled"....

Can ANYONE let me know what is happening on my Publisher
program (Office XP) when I open it and all I get
is "code", written on pages, moving at a very quick rate
and not making any sense,(of course). Then at the bottom,
where it shows the number of pages that are being loaded,
it just keeps loading "pages and pages" of this "garbled
code stuff"!!!
Does anyone have any hints on what is happening to me,
and how to fix it???? Thax to that persone in advance !!!

You could be running any version of Publisher, as it is unlikely that you
got Publisher with your copy of Office.

It sounds like you are loading a document that Publisher does not recognise
as being a Publisher file. Hence, Publisher just gets the raw data from the
file (which looks like garbage) and is displaying it in text boxes, one per
page.
Are you trying to open a file?
