Publisher Web Page Search Function

whhelersmind

I have built a simple web page (Publisher 2003) to sell old and overstock
parts. Can I add a search box for visitors to type in a part number or
description with Publisher 2003? If so, How?
Thank you.

Last year Don posted:

How about creating a catalog file using pdf format? The reader program has
a search box.

David, can you tell us how to add Google search bar to a Publisher webpage.
Thank you.

I haven't installed one before, but you would use the insert html code
fragment feature to insert the code from whatever search engine you choose
to use. I can remember this topic coming up before, but I can't remember
what was recommended.

Here is a link to a number of search engines that you might try:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...al&hs=GFr&q=website+search+engine&btnG=Search

I am not sure that the google search engine is free or not.

Sorry I can't be more specific...just back up your Pub file and test some of
them. Post back if you find one you like and works well with Publisher.

I took it as if he/she wanted to search their own database on their site,
not the web. It wasn't perfectly clear.

Mike,

Yeah...at least I remembered your suggestion this time...

Wow...you really do have a green thumb.

By the way, how is WebPlus getting along with IE8 beta? Any noise in your
forum? It sounds like there are a lot of sites that are going to require
compatibility view, including Publisher webs.

Merry Christmas to you too...

David,

I haven't seen any reports with the Beta but I don't know if many people
are using it. After I got a new computer and had to reinstall almost
every program, I could not find a current version of Mozilla (wonder
why!) so switched to SeaMonkey. Wish I had saved the folder with all my
cookies in it!

But what is the Compatibility view?

There have been a lot of requests for WP to get away from the fixed
positioning style which I think would not be hard to do. Instead of
converting code to <div> tags, it would be <table> ones. The problem
might be in legacy documents where one has used some tricks to get items
to display the way the designer wants.

I checked my cucumbers this morning and sure enough, one bloom has
developed into a fruit. The hope is to have it mature in 13 days. My
niece and her kids love, I mean really love, fresh cucumbers and we are
getting together December 28. If I can take them a nice 8-10" long cuke
they will be on Cloud Cuckoo!

Why don't you use FireFox if you like Mozilla browsers? I am now using IE7,
FF3 and an older version of Opera just for testing.

Not a lot of people using IE8 beta around here either, but a few have and
have reported problems with Publisher webs. Compatibility view...IE8 renders
the page in IE7 mode.

I guess the hydro-growing is stretching out your gardening season. The
tomatoes I can see, but cucumbers...yuck. I am not a fan.

David,

SeaMonkey is the suite of applications while FF is only the browser, AFAIK.

I'm trying to resist the impulse to buy about $80 worth of hydroponics
supplies. Made a deal with myself (talk about dealing with the devil)
that I will wait until tomorrow to order it. I'll be able to grow four
more tomato and cucumber plants (ya need cukes for a salad) as well as
six heads of lettuce and four basil plants.

There's no doubt if the law looks at my on-line orders they will be
knocking at my door - at the best! I don't mind if they knock, as with
their hands or fist. I'll be more than happy to give them a tour. I
worry they will bust the door down and destroy my seedlings looking for
something illegal. Although, I must say, when I few some web pages and
people show the plants they have growing, I have to wonder if the law
really cares.

Sent my last pages of the year to the printer, now all I have to do is
deliver them tomorrow and Thursday.

Du'oh...of course I should have known, or remembered that about SeaMonkey.

I think you deserve the new hydroponics...you have been a good boy this
year, I here.

David,

Yeah, I've had to be good - don't have enough time to get into trouble!
Just knocked almost $40 off my costs. I was going to order a roll of
Mylar (a very reflective material that makes the light intensity much
higher) which was the biggest ticket. I had tried to find some in
Cincinnati but no one carries it. Then someone suggested Grainger. They
don't sell the rolls of it but they use to carry those emergency
blankets that are 56" x 7' pieces. They have been discontinued but they
are bringing in some from other stores. I ordered five of them, at a
cost of less than $16 total!

Good idea. Now when you blow the circuits and heat from too many grow
lights, you can bundle up in the space blankets <g>.

David,

You just wait until the end of January or the middle of February when I
post links to red-ripe tomatoes, beautiful heads of lettuce and ripe,
juicy cucumbers that I pluck from my spare bedroom!

BTW, all the grow lights combined will draw less current than one 1500
watt space heater. Plus, when I wired them, I used 12/2 Romex (I had
spare wire laying around). Plus, they are on a 15 amp breaker.

But the space blankets are suppose to be the cat's meow. Get caught on
an open sea or lake in the middle of summer - they keep you cool. If you
are stuck on a glacier in sub-zero temps with winds blowing 35 MPH, it
keeps you warm.

They give these things away to like the top 100 finishers in the local
marathon, though one would think if you are in shape to run 26 miles,
you should be safe in heat or cold!

DavidF

Just kidding you.

I have used the regular space blankets for 25 years or so, and they do work.
The throwaway kind that you are using aren't that durable, but are also a
good thing to have in the emergency kit in the car.

Enjoy your produce...
