Publisher will not load

I am at my wits end. I bought a new HP Pavilion zd8000 in July of this year.
I moved all my data from a Dell desktop to the laptop. Everything loaded just
fine, except Publisher 2003.

I am trying to install P 03 from a Microsoft cd. I have tried on other
desktops, and cd works just fine. It is not the cd. Put it into the laptop
and I receive a "Patch package could not be found" error.

After 25+ hours with tech support at Microsoft and HP, I still have no
answers. HP said it is a Microsoft registry error. Microsoft wants me to go
back to HP b/c Windows XP came loaded on the laptop. HP said to reload XP.
It's a new laptop. I will not risk my data to reload XP.

Can anyone help?? I am a small business owner that would just like to use
the software I am used to. So far, support at HP and Microsoft has been
lacking. No one wants to step up to the plate.

Thank you for your quick response.

I've been to this link a dozen times. Installer clean up cannot locate any
publisher files on my computer. Publisher has never been loaded onto it - as
it is new and the cd won't load.

The computer came with windows xp and office basic - publisher isn't part of
basic.

I am hoping you have another idea??

Can you log onto an administrator account and install?
Have you tried copying the disk to the hard drive and installing from there?

How to use a setup log file to troubleshoot setup problems in Office 2003

Do you have Norton? Disable script blocking and in Norton options, misc. clear Office
Plug-in.

Setup or repair quits unexpectedly with no error message when you try to setup or to
repair Office 2003

I am the administrator account. HP also had me try copying the disk to the
hard drive and then installing. The same thing happens.

I also followed your steps for Norton. That did ot solve the problem.

I printed off the setup log file article. I'll need to take some additional
time to look that over, read and follow the instructions.

I appricate your time and will report back. I am willing to take most any
step to resolve tihs problem. I do not want to reload Windows XP.

Thanks!
