Publishing a Custom Form to Multiple Locations

Are there any issues with publishing a custom form to a Public Folder and
then copying it over to a user's Inbox? The KB article below makes mention
that MS doesn't recommend this for Public Folders, however its unclear
concerning my specific senario. Given my users, I'd prefer to have it as a
part of their inbox.

Forms should not be published to more that one place, though you can back
them up to one or more pst files and not cause any problems. The real
problem is that Outlook/the operating system/whatever automatically looks for
the form in specific places. You can trick it by publishing to a folder
somewhere else, but it will not be automatically found. And sometimes, if you
update the form, it will find an old copy because the OS installs the form on
your computer if it is not in the expected place.

Whatever your scenario, if you have an Exchange Server in the mix and you
know you do because you are talking about Public Folders--an Exchange
feature, the form should be published to the Exchange Organizational Library.
That is the first place that Outlook will look for the form. (Unless, of
course, you are using the cache mode.) Publishing it anywhere else is asking
for trouble.

While I would have preferred to have given my users the ability to select the
form via their INBOX and ACTIONS (the form will be published to a public
folder), I'm going to cheat the system and given them shortcuts in their
Outlook shortcuts as well as desktop icons that use the the /c command line
switch as in

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" /c
ipm.note.methodofpaymentrequest

eek.,... i am having another problem now in that it shows a MAPI error and
says items cannot be created in the root of a public folder.
is this something to do with my system permissions or am i going about
publishing it in the wrong way ?

When are you getting that error? Do you have owner permission on the folder? What type of form -- contact, task, etc.?
