Publishing Assignment Updates

Darrell

Can anyone point me to a Microsoft document that clearly states that task
updates must be published after they are saved to the project plan, each time
updates are accepted, before the new information will be available for
viewing by the enterprise?

Assuming you are using Project Server 2007, the system uses four databases
to store project information. When you save a project, the system saves the
project in the Draft database. When you publish a project, the system
copies the project information from the Draft database to the Published
database and the Reporting database. Project information in the Draft
database is not visible in PWA. Only project information in the Published
database is visible in PWA. Therefore, to make sure the current project
information is visible in PWA, the PM must publish his/her project after
every round of updating and saving the project. Hope this helps.

Dale,

Thanks for the input and that is exacltly how I understood the process. The
problem I am facing is a group of whinners who keep saying "It wasn't that
way in 2003, we didn't have to do this before, etc." So I was hoping someone
knew where it was actually documented by Microsoft that the PM must republish
after updates in order to make the new and changed data available to the PWA
users so that I could show them that it has been and still is as you say.

Well, please tell the whiners that they are wrong about how Project Server
2003 worked. After each round of updates in 2003, they still needed to do
at least Collaborate - Publish - New and Changed Assignments, or usually, do
a Collaborate - Publish - All Information. So, they are just plain wrong
about that. Something tells me that if my words won't satisfy them, a
document from Microsoft won't work either. :)

Lol... how very true.

After a meeting with the PMs today I found out that the updating process in
2003 was automated with rules and macros so they didnt even know what was
happening when they accepted updates. They just knew they only had to click
one button instead of two. Ahhh... I have such a long way to go with this
group <grin>

Thx again for the help
