Publishing: Error Messages

KennyGK

I'm using FP2002 on a WinXPpro SP2 machine with all the latest updates for
everything.

I've been publishing my site for years now up until lst Wednesday, but today
I tried publishing and got error messages as follows.

1) "The server "" timed out. The current request did not complete
successfully."
....then when I click OK I get this error message ...
2) "An error occured accessing your FrontPage web files. Authors - if
authoring against a web server, please contact the webmaster for this
server's site. WebMasters - please see the server's system log for more
details.

I called the host today, GoDaddy.com, and they said everything was fine on
their end. I also requested re-installation of the FrontPage Extensions,
which has been completed. Still no relief. I uninstalled and re-installed
FrontPage 2002, and still no relief. I updated all the latest updates for
both office and windows, but no relief. I scanned for viruses using Norton
AV (2007 and up to date), and Ad-Aware SE Personal (up to date also) and
found no bugs, but still I get the same error mesages.

I know there are others here with similar problems. Can anyone at Microsoft
offer suggestions?

I'm having the same prolem with uploading or publishing to GoDaddy. When I
find out what to do I'll let you know or vice versa.

GoDaddy users post these problems in droves.

|I spoke with GoDaddy several times, and they insist it is a FrontPage or FP
| Extensions problem that I'm having, and sent me to Microsoft. Typical
| response for problems that they can't fix is to pass the buck.

Have you tried the usual repairs in the sequence below:
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
- in FP 2003 you need to look in the super hidden folder
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
3) Run a Repair on IE
(see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=318378 )
4) Install all Service Packs for your OS, IE, MS Office and your Video card
(Windows Update and Office Update sites, plus your video card supplier site)
5) Open FP and Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins,
6) Open your FP Web/Site and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks

Also
- Make sure you don't have any thumbs.db in your local site (from viewing images as thumbnails)
- Remove any media files over 1 MB from your local site and try again
- Turn off your AV before publishing

Microsoft can not fix issues related to how GoDaddy configures the FP extensions on their servers.
