publishing error

Hi there
We have just installed 2003 onto a new server.
My infrastructure manager tells me he has installed the application
onto Andromeda and the SQL database onto Macbeth (just don't even go
there with the names of these darn things!)
I have created a plan and now wish to publish it.
I have set up a connection to Andromeda, but I get an error message
telling me that there was a problem accessing the project server, due
either to low memory, missing or unstable components, and to install
more memory or reboot.

it's got loads of memory and the boz has been rebooted with no effect.
also - in the properties box of the connections dialog box the
connection to Andromeda is greyed out.

Any advice will be, as always, very gratefully received
