Publishing New and Changed Assignments doesn't change publish date/time

When I publish New and Changed Assignments the project's publish
date/time is not updated. This seems reasonable, since the project
many have not changed only the assignments, but also I noticed that the
changes I make to the assignments are also not published. That is the
resource's tasks don't change in PWA! At least they don't show up in
PWA views when I drill down on the project.

Is this the way Publish New and Changed Assignments should work? If it
is, why would I ever use it?

It looks like I need to aways use Publish All it I want the change to
show up in PWA view.

Collaborate - Publish - New and Changed Assignments "pushes" the project
data to basically two places in PWA: the View My Tasks page (timesheet) for
each team member in the project, and the View Resource Assignments page.
Therefore, if you use that publishing feature after making changes to the
project, you will not see the changes in the Project Center page or the
detailed Project page. When you make changes to the project, you must
Collaborate - Publish - Project Plan to "push" the project data to the
Project Center and detailed Project views. Frankly, I think that it is the
easiest to click Collaborate - Publish - All Information after making
changes to the project, because this will "push" the data everywhere in PWA.

Also, if you manually enter actuals in the Microsoft Project plan, and you
want those actuals to appear on the timesheet of the team member for whom
you entered actuals, you must click Collaborate - Publish - Republish
Assignments, select the "Overwrite actual work entered by resources" and
then click the OK button. Hope this helps.

Hi Gene,

in addition to Dale excellent comment, you should know that "Publishing new
and changed assignments" would allow you to keep control of e-mail
notifications by deselecting "Notify all affected resources via e-mail.
