Publishing of plan reschedules tasks and overallocates resources

Hello all,

This issue is happening in Project 2003:
A user created a plan on his client side MSP that he wants to upload to the
server. The resource names, calendar, and currency are the same in the local
plan and in the Enterprise Global template. However, when the plan is
published on the server, some of the tasks are rescheduled, which also
results in an overallocation of some of the resources.

Could anyone explain what could be causing the tasks to be rescheduled?
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Additional information: When the project is imported and the local
resources are kept with the base calendar, the dates/durations do not change.
Also, the user tried copying the base calendar to the enterprise global
template, and then added it to the enterprise resources, but the problem
still exists when the enterprise resources are used.

The behavior you see usually occurs when there are nonworking days such as
vacation on the enterprise Standard calendar, which places the holidays on
each resource's calendar in the Enterprise Resource Pool as well. Is it
possible that in the imported project, the PM did not add company holidays
on his/her local Standard calendar, which means the resources in the project
do not have the holidays on their calendars as well? Let us know.

Hi Dale-

I am also interested in this issue

If the base calendar is copied to both the Enterprise Global and to the
resources in the resource pool, we still experience a situation where the
import looks to the standard calendar. This means that the project duration
is reduced by 100+ days as the standard calendar doesnt contain the holidays
as in the custom calendar.

How do we achieve a situation where when we save the plan to project server,
it doesnt look to the standard calendar but to the custom calendar?

Thanks,
Shane

Click Project - Project Information and select the custom calendar. Does
that help at all? Also, you DO NOT need to copy the base calendar from the
project to both the Enteprise Global AND to the Enterprise Resource Pool.
Copy it to the Enterprise Global, and assuming that the resources Base
Calendar is set to the correct calendar, all resources will inherit the
holidays on the calendar. Hope this helps.

Dale,

Have set the enterprise global to use the base calendar.
Resources in the ERP are setup to use the base calendar.
Resources in the plan before the import are setup to use the base calendar.

Still when I import / save the plan to server, the duration changes.

Am I missing something entirely?

Thanks for your help,
Shane

I'm sorry, but I'm running out of ideas. Perhaps someone else can think of
something I am missing. And by the way, you don't set a base calendar in
the Enterprise Global. That file is used as your organization's "library"
of custom enterprise fields, Views, Tables, Filters, Groups, etc. Sorry I
can't be of more help.
