Publishing problems with FP2003. Same files published again & again...

Hi all,

I'm having a problem with Frontpage 2003 publishing. Every time I publish,
it shows a conflict between several files and asks if I want to overwrite
them. I choose "yes" and it overwrites them. But if I publish again, even
right away, even several times in a row or in an evening, it still shows the
same files as being in conflict. As a result, I have to upload almost half
my website every single time I publish! Here's the exact message:

"Some files have changed on both the local and remote websites and are in
conflict."

It then asks again if I want to overwrite or not. It does this every single
time and it's always the same files. Anyone have any ideas as to why this
happens? Thanks.

Do you have files on the live site that are being updated by users, or is the site running any
server side processes?

No. Only I publish files, no one else. I'm not running any server side
processes that I know of. Not exactly sure what "server side processes" are.
Can you give an example?

Do you have a discussion web, guest book, hit counter?

Does the web host store your server log files within your web space?

Yes, I have both a hit counter on the main webpage and a guest book. They
are the ones that are included with FP2003.

I have a similar problem with my host sometimes. The server somehow is
effecting the files to cause them to be out of sync with FP or something
like that. I just ignore the files that are in conflict and only publish the
ones that I have edited/changed on my machine.

1. The Hit Counter create file that is active being used every time someone visits your site.

2. The guest book, if being used will always be out of sync with your local copy, and should be
marked never to be published.

I have a similar problem with one of my hosts. The host runs Windows 2003,
IIS 6.

For me, in Remote Site view, selecting the "in conflict" files on the local
machine, and use Publish Selected Files from the right click menu cures it
for those files. However, updating some other file and publishing normally
often (though not always) causes that one to go out of synch. Your results
using this method may vary.

You can see all the "in conflict" and unmatched files at once if, in Remote
Web Site view, you change the View dropdown to Files in Conflict.

Correction:

This actually shows all the files in conflict, but only those files
unmatched in the destination web, the destination being determined by
whether you are publishing from Local to Remote (destination = Remote) or
Remote to Local (dest. = Local).

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad to know I'm no the only one who has this
problem. Thomas, the files that are in conflict are not limited to the hit
counter and guestbook. About 25 files are marked as being in conflict, some
of them are html files some fo them are jpg images. Some of the html files
are files that I haven't touched in a looong time. It's always the same
files.
