publishing problems

Rick

hi all,

we are a small company but we do host our own web on a 2000 server running
iis 5.0. i use fp 2002 for web maintenace and publishing. because of our
small size, we don't have anyone on staff that can help.

all of a sudden, i am getting the following errors when i try to publish.

The web server does not appear to have any authentication methods enabled.
It asked for user authentication, but did not send a WWW-Authenticate header.

clicking OK, i then get a new popup window asking for the publish
destination, with my default inserted, so i click OK again and then i get
another popup that says:

A web does not exist at http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. Would you like FrontPage to
create a web at that location?

if i click OK, i get another popup with the following message:

Unable to open http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. Possible causes;

1. the web server may not have the Frontpage Server Extensions installed.
2. The web server may be temporarily out of service.
3. If you are connecting thru a proxy server, the proxy setting may be
incorrect.
4. An error may have occurred in the web server.

i have searched the kb but without success.

i am at a total loss. any help to resolve these problems would be greatly
appreciated.

TIA

Have you looked at the log files on the server?

i have looked in event viewer at the log files there and there were some
events listed which i deleted prior to this problem appearing. if i go thru
the steps now to publish thru fp, nothing shows up in the logs.
