Publishing to the web

Neil M

Hello:

I used Frontpage for years and just bought Office 2007 Ulitimate which
included Publisher.
In Frontpage all I had to do was select "Publish Web" and it wouldlist all
the pages in the web that were on my HD and I could either select which to
publish or use the default setting which was publish any pages that had been
changed. It would ask me where to publish and I would select or type my
destination (i.e. www.mydomain.com)

In publisher it seems that I have to individually enter the detination. I
tried it last night to publish a test page. WHen I clicked publish it came up
as a "save as: box. In the file name slot I typed
"http://www.mydomain.com/test.htm" but it would not publish it.

Do I need only enter "www.mydomain.com" or the full page URL?

Thanks,
Neil M

Neil M,

As you already own and understand how to use FrontPage, IMHO you should
probably go back to FrontPage for your web work. Publisher is a DTP with
limited web design capability and best used for small, simple and static
sites. You will find FP has a lot more capability.

You might want to reference David Bartosik's article about using Publisher
for web pages before you invest more time to make sure you have realistic
expectations: Using Publisher for web sites :
http://msmvps.com/blogs/dbartosik/articles/80566.aspx

With that said, reference David Bartosik's articles about uploading:
http://msmvps.com/blogs/dbartosik/archive/category/1921.aspx
Unless you are using forms on your website you can use FTP uploading
protocol. If you are using forms HTTP uploading will be required. There is
also a troubleshooting article and information about incremental uploading.

Another reference: Prepare, publish, and maintain your Publisher Web site:

If you have follow up or future questions I would suggest that you post in
the web group: microsoft.public.publisher.webdesign
