Publishing to Web

Herb Mann

When I try to publish to my web site, it says it cannot connect. Here is what
happens:
1. Publish to Web
2. My web ftp appears and I sign in.
3. It shows my existing index.htm and index_files
When I try to save to it, Publisher cranks a long time and finally says it
cannot connect.
When I go directly to my ftp site, I have no problem getting on and viewing
my files so I have to think it is a problem with Publisher. I did not have
this problem with the Beta version.

Are you using IE7? You might want to roll back to IE6 by uninstalling IE7
through add or remove.

Thanks. I prefer to stay with IE7 and take my lumps. It would be nice if MS
would make their programs compatible. I'll just use Core FTP for the uploads
although it is a bit inconvenient.

I have only loaded IE7 on a test partition because of all the reported
problems with it, and haven't experimented with it much, but it seems to me
that MSFT made some changes in IE7 for security reasons. I also think the
change required setting up your FTP in your Network Places, and then you
could FTP from IE. However, you might want to post that question on the IE
newsgroup to get a more definitive answer. If you find out this is true,
please post back for the benefit of others. Thanks.

One more thought. When I go directly to the ftp site withing IE7, I have no
problem connecting. So, I suspect it has more to do with a problem within
Publisher 2007 than IE7. Are there any other thoughts on this? Is anyone else
having the same problem.

I don't think it is within Publisher, but.... I still think it is a security
setting of some sort within IE. Perhaps check whether you are using passive
or active FTP mode? Check your firewall settings? Not sure what to suggest
beyond that....sorry.

From what I recall, ftp publishing requires you to save your site as
index.html and then open your ftp site and copy and paste not only your
index.html file but your index_files folder too it will say already exists
and and you say yes to replace. I no longer use ftp and really love http
because there is only one step and I can use FPE forms.
