publishing v. "Published."

I have save a master plan on our test server to create ad hoc groupings of
published plans. On the server configuration page I have "allow master plans
to be saved" checked as a yes, and "Allow master projects to be published to
Microsoft Project Server" unchecked.

When I save the Master plan, it gets a filename "XXX.Published.mpp". I am
assuming this "Published." (noun) is different than the "to be published"
(verb)?

When we go live plan owners will use both the original and master. My
concern, of course, is the resources. Is this master plan, saved, but not
published, on the server, going to duplicate resources when plan owners view
it and make modifications?

Microsoft made a huge mistake when they used the same word (published) to
mean two entirely different things. The file extension .published simply
means that you have saved the project in the Project Server database. You
must actually publish a project by clicking Collaborate - Publish - All
Information, or the combination of Collaborate - Publish - Project Plan and
Collaborate - Publish - New and Changed Assignments.

If you save the master project but do not publish it, your resources will
NOT see duplicate task assignments on their View My Tasks page in PWA, so
you are safe. Hope this helps.

Dale -

I am shocked, SHOCKED, that Microsoft could make a mistake. But your answer
will help me to recover.

Thanks,
