Publising to subdomain

S

Steve Adams

I just changed web hosts and am re-publishing my two web
sites. The main site, http://radioattic.com, is complete
and working (I think) OK. The other was a subdomain,
http://archives.radioattic.com

I had set up the subdomain on my PC in
c:\frontpagewebs\archives and had been publishing to
http://archives.radioattic.com

But after I switched hosts and tried to publish there, my
new host said I could not publish directly to a subdomain
and told me to publish to http://radioattic.com/archives
instead.

Well, the site published OK, but when I tried to use my FP
counters, FP could not find my counters (these work fine
at the main site). I have tried changing the source by
opening the web directly, but FP changes the source back
to what it generated (FP thinks it's smarter than I am,
and I'm beginning to agree).

I can get the counters to work at
http://radioattic.com/archives/includes/counters-
2003/count_homepage.htm, but not at
http://archives.radioattic.com/includes/counters-
2003/count_homepage.htm

For four years, visitors have been going to
archives.radioattic.com; if I want the counters to work
correctly, they will have to start going to
radioattic.com/archives. This will require me to get
numerous other web sites to change their links to me, as
well as getting hundreds of visitors to change their
bookmarks.

Is my host correct in telling me that I cannot publish
directly to the subdomain? Why was I able to do it with
my old host? What can I do to get my counters to work
where I want them to? Will my cholesterol level ever go
down without drugs? I need to know!

Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can offer!

Your host has not set up a subdomain, and is telling you to publish to a
subweb. You'll need to see if they will in fact set up a subdomain.
