Pull-down menus and delete problems

I have a Mac iBook that uses Word: Mac 2001, service
release 1, 1983-2000. It also says Compare Versions 1993
in the Info Window. I'm using Mac OS 9.2.2 Hope that's
enough to orient you.

Problem 1 is that suddenly within the pull-down menus, the
little black arrows that lead on to further information
(eg, Insert, Break, black arrow; or: View, Toolbars, black
arrow; or: Tools, Macro, black arrow) have stopped leading
on to further information. Can you please tell me why, and
how to fix this?

Problem 2 is that when I'm writing in Microsoft Word and I
use the Delete key to lose lines, when I get up to the next
area of text, the text font and size in this area suddenly
changes to something else. It's incredibly annoying to
have to reformat all the time - could you please advise

you may need to hit refresh a couple of times if you're using Safari.

If you delete the end of a paragraph (i.e., the paragraph mark), the
remaining paragraph text will take on the style of the succeeding
paragraph.

Are you using styles to format your documents? or direct formatting?

If styles, format all the paragraphs with the desired style. If direct,
there's not much you can do other than reformat the text.
