pull through summary

I am importing data into the summary row only of a custom text field. I would
like that data to either automatically copy down into the same text field for
all the sub tasks or pull through to another field for all the subtasks.

eg.

Text1 Task Name
300 PS010
- camera
- filter

PS010 is the summary task
Camera and Filter are the subtasks of PS010
300 is imported from an external database for PS010

Is there a way to pull the number 300 to the task Camera and filter in Text1
or into another text field?

I could import this data for the subtasks. However, sometimes I would like
to create new ones and I do not want to individually copy and paste as it is
going to be on a large scale.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hello ellebelle,

No, sorry. As Rob notes, it would require VBA to reference another
task's data in the current task. The only exception to that rule is
the ability to automatically copy Task or Resource data to the
assignment data in Usage views.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Oh, now I see. I answered on the other post. Yes, you will need VBA to do
that as I described. We have things like this, however, it is not freeware.
I'd have to dig it out.

I think you can also get something very similar from either Jack Dalgren's
website or buy Rod Gil's book on Programming with VBA and Microsoft Project.

Jack's site: http://masamiki.com/project/ and here is a macro he has that is
somewhat close to what you need: http://masamiki.com/project/summaryname.txt

Here's Rod's site for his book:

Thanks. I am already using Jack's macro to get the summary name, however this
is using the "outline level" which only applies to task name entries. I can't
think how you would adapt it. If you do find anything else then I would
appreciate it.

Thanks
