Pulling data from Practice Manager database

Has anyone ever created mail merge templates that pull data from a
Practice Manager database? I am familiar with the process when pulling
data from an excel sheet but now need to access a db. How do I get
started?

Thanks for your help, however I should have explained a little more
about the sutuation. I am already familiar with accessing databases
through VB code using ADO. I am very comfortable finding records and
jumping around inside the db behind the interface.

What I need here is a way to access data from a propriatary system.
I'm hoping to find someone that also uses Practice Manager to store
their data. And to find out how they access the database that appears
to be internal to the ap with Word templates.

All attempts that I made to get information from the vendors of Practice
Manager proved fruitless. Of course, if I had the software, it might help,
the party whom I was trying to assist was on the other side of the world.
