Hi:
In both Word and Excel, the double-quote and apostrophe won't appear unless
I key another character after or add a space. Can you help? I am using
Office 2002.

Hi,

In excel I type ="'" (double quote, aprostrophe, double quote) to make one
apostrophe appear.

Maybe this helps

Thanks Jen, but it is the single apostrophe or double quote that won't appear
unless I add a space or another character. I use the apostrophe and
double-quote for the foot and inches symbol, so it is extremely incovenient
to add another keystroke when doing up measurements. I checked in auto
correct and found nothing....

Check what keyboard layout you have set in the Operating system.

Control panel, Regional and language options, languages, Details,
Settings, Keyboard.

Maybe you have this toggled:
Tools|Options|transition tab|Uncheck Transition navigation keys.

I'd uncheck all those options.

You still will have to type two single apostrophes to see one. Excel uses the
single apostrophe to indicate that the entry should be treated as text.

And with that setting toggled, excel will use Lotus 123 settings:

" means right justify the entry
^ means center the entry
' means left justify the entry

Hi, pal!

You have US International set as your input language. In this keyboard
layout there is this bug(?) with punctuation.

Change US International to just US instead.
Enjoy!

Good luck :)
