Punctuation not printing consistently

I am trying to print a large Word document with many quotation marks
and apostrophes. I can see the punctuation on my screen, and most of
the punctuation prints out correctly, but some of the punctuation is
not printing at all. Where there should be a apostrophe, there is
sometimes just a space, and some quotation marks are getting left out.

Also, how can I type in the same quotation mark style consistently?
Sometimes I get straight marks; other times I get the curly style.

Here's how I handle that. I *hate* inconsistent quote marks.

Set your smart quote preferences how you like 'em. My preference is
curly aka "smart". I'm not sure how smart they are, but they are less
ugly.

Select the whole document and do a find and replace all with " in find
and " in replace. Then do the same for '.

For completeness, find by hand one that does not print. Copy it. Paste
it into the 'find' field then replace all with a pukka ' or " as
needed.

I don't know how some don't print. They may have got into a doofus
font, or been near a version of Word that can do unicode. Try selecting
them and force 'normal for style' on 'em. NB, That's a wild guess.
