put parentheses around each entry in a table column in a word document

Does anyone know how to do this ? It's for copyediting purposes. I have
microsoft word 2004 for Mac.

Hi Catherine:

1) Add a blank column either side
2) Add an opening parenthesis to the top left cell and copy
3) Select all the cells and Paste
4) Do the same on the other side with a closing parenthesis
5) Now Convert the Table to Text separating with Tabs
6) Select the converted table
7) Use Replace to search for "(^t" -- no quotes -- and replace with "(".
8) Replace All.
9) Do the same with "^t)" to ")"
10) Convert Text to Table...

The ^t is a control character that represents a tab in Find and Replace.

This is a lot quicker to do that it is to read.
