Putting captions on images

To put a caption on an image I insert the image, then insert a small
textbox right under it and type in a caption.
The problem is, its often hard to adjust the textbox size to fit
exactly the width of the image, and also, I give the image a 'distance
from text' on both the left and right sides of the image, but I can't
do the same for the textbox underneath the image. This looks
amateurish. Is there a way around this?
Thanks

Use the Snap functionality to make the edges of your textbox match those of
the picture, including the top edge (of the text box).

Use the text box margin to adjust the distance of the text from the image.

============================
Drag the text box to the exact width
of the image and then choose Center
Alignment for the text.

It may help to place the text box on top
of the image with...Snap > To Objects...
selected...drag it to size and then move
the text box below the image.
