putting page numbers on outside of page

You can still do this manually (which is the best approach for something as
formal as a book). Enable "Different odd and even" headers and footers and
then insert your PAGE field where you need it in the Odd Page Header/Footer
and Even Page Header/Footer (using the Current Position menu item under Page
Number).

In word 2007 and Vista, is it possible to put the page numbers on the
outside of each page, like I could have done when I was using Word 2000? In
2007 it seems the only choices for putting the page numbers at the top of
the page are on the left side of each page, the right side of each page or
in the center. They give you all kinds of unwanted formatting choices but
not the one choice that every book uses: namely having the numbers on the
outside of each page. Am I overlooking something?
