Putting security on tables or records only

Is it possible to just put security just on records or tables and not the
entire database? I have a database that I would like the users to enter
their own data but not be able to see or access data from other users. Is
this possible? The backend database seems to allow the users access to all
the tables so this doesn't help me. Can anyone help with this?
