Hi, Mike,
I am the first time user of the MS Office Discussion group. I accepted the
terms today so I can post. I have a couple 'dumm' questions:
1. Are posting questions or receiving answers on these discussion group
(like Projects, Powerpoint, Visio...) free?
2. Is the MVP website that many mvp's provided the link free for us to
browse and download? I am not sure what the MVP function is and how it
works. Is MVP part of Microsoft? Are you a staff of MVP or MicroSoft? I
saw you have free tutorial and MS also has project 2002 training materials
that I can browse. Are these free for anyone to use? Can you shed some
light? Thanks.

1. These discussion forums, aka newsgroups, allow you to post questions and
receive answers for free. These newsgroup as simply user groups in which we
all try to help one another. So, feel free to ask questions...for free! :)

2. MVP stands for Most Valuable Professional, an honorary title that
Microsoft confers on people who possess expert level knowledge on a
Microsoft softfoware application (such as Microsoft Project) and who
publicly share their knowledge in some public venue, such as by answering
questions in a newsgroup, hosting a software blog, speaking at user groups,
etc. You will a number of MVPs who answer questions in this newsgroup.
NONE of us work for Microsoft. We are all users who care about the others
in the user community. We are not paid for answering questions; we do it as
a labor of love.

Hope this helps.

Hi 2007newuser,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Everything you mention is free for you to use within normal copyright rules,
including my free tutorials. However, as a new user, and the fact that
Project is not that intuitive, I would thoroughly recommend attending at
least a two day introductory course on Project to get you up and running
quickly. Meanwhile, you welcome to the tutorials.

As for MVPs, see here:

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Dale,
Thanks a lot. I wish I had used this discussion group before. It's a lot
of good tips and information. Of course, it's contributed to a bunch of
people like you with a heart of care and love and of course, labor, in
answering questions every day. So, the website of
http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm is created and maintained by some dedicated
MVPs?

Yes, that web site is created and maintained by the Project MVP community.
Hope this helps.
