PWA Gantt chart custom duration

I want to show in the PWA Gantt chart a sign for production tasks so the
logistic team knows when to buy material. The custom duration fields seems
very attractive to realise this.
Does anybody knows how to use them?
To which fields in Enterprise Global Template are they matching?
